Earth Hour

Turn your lights off this Saturday from 8:30-9:30 PM to take part in Earth Hour. "Earth Hour, the public awareness raising campaign on climate change is showing signs of being the greatest voluntary action the world has ever witnessed." - http://www.earthhour.org/home/

This event really seems to be gaining some momentum in its second year. Check out their site for ideas, suggestions, and to see who is participating - you might be surprised.

  1. I think this is a good idea. I think we should have more stuff like this, not only in clover but maybe state wide.
I know there are some places that they have an hour every week where everyone turns their lights off to try and conserve energy.

I think if we could do this and a little more that we could really make a difference.

  2. I think this is a fantastic idea. I believe that anything to help out our environment is worth trying. I wish we could do more things with the state to help protect our environment, whether its earth hour or something else. Our community is pretty good about putting together organizations to help the environment. We do many contributions such as adopt a highway or the riversweep. We need to get the other communities in our state to help make a difference as well.

If everyone does a little, nobody has to do alot.

  3. I feel that this is a great idea. I think if things like this keep happening in the future we will be able to conserve more and more energy for generations. Little things like this add up and eventually could help problems. I would definitely participate in something like this to help protect the environment. People should pay more attention to things like this to help out our environment and even help themselves out to save a dollar.

  4. Why isn’t there more hours designated for “earth hour”? And why isn’t it displayed more. I knew nothing about this hour, if I had, I would have not only participated... but tried my best to promote it among my high school friends and neighbors. I know sometimes, I have unnecessary lights on – especially during the day, when the sun is bright enough to light my whole room. This is such a neat way of working through our environmental issues. I only wish people around the world knew the extent of what our precious world will face in the near future, if we don’t do things to prevent it. Since I enrolled in Environment Science class I have learned things I do on a regular basis that I should cut back on to help with these world-wide problems. Hopefully with what I have previously learned, I can now teach this to others.

  5. Earth hour is a great way to promote conserving energy that is being wasted. Along with Landon, I know there are times when I leave my appliances running while they are being unused, I do this mostly with my television. Also, my brother told me computers are more susceptible to viruses when you shut them off over night, so my family leaves ours running 24/7. This is an unnecessary waste that I could easily take care of. Although I have heard of Earth hour, I have not participated. I know this is lame, but on Nickelodeon, they turn off all cartoon programs and advise you participate. My dad has asked me on about four accounts to think about doing it. I understand that just one hour could save a lot of energy, I will probably participate soon.

  6. I think this is a great idea. In the future we are really going to have to start consevring energy. I could really see my self doing that iam out side alot at night time sitting near a fire just hanging out so it would not be hard for me to kill the power for a hour or two as long as my mom is not home.
