SunChips bags will still be biodegradable but without all the extra noise. In April 2009, Frito-Lay introduced biodegradable bags in a marketing effort to strengthen the brand’s environmentally friendly nature. However, customers complained that the bag was too loud. The stiffer material that the bags were made from were said to be as loud as a busy city street. The criticism grew to the point that Frito-Lay switched back to its original bag for most flavors in October, 2009. After a lot of research, the company found that if it used a different glue to put together the two layers of a bag, it created a similar package without the noise issues. Frito-Lay’s new SunChips bag is set to arrive in stores in the coming days. I think it is good that Frito-Lay didn't let the criticism of the old loud bags to stop their help to our environment. It is really sad that people would be so negative to complain about how loud a chip bag is. At least we know Frito-Lay listens to their costumers.
That is so ridiculous that people would complain so much that a chip bag is too loud! A loud crackling noise for a few minutes seems like a small price to pay for helping the envirionment. I'm glad that they swiched back to the biodegradable bags even after all the complaints.
ReplyDeleteI didn't think that the old bags were much louder than the non-biodegradable ones. It is good that they were able to find a solution.
ReplyDeleteThe bags were too loud? Really? The Frito-Lay company was actually concerned about something other than just making profit and people found something to complain about. It is a good thing that they were able to find a way to make the customers happy and help the earth.
ReplyDeleteThis is crazy! I agree with helping the enviroment and making the bags enviromentaly friendly, but who has enough time on their hands to complain about how noisy a bag of chips are!
ReplyDeleteI agree that it is ridiculous that people would complain about something so petty. There are more important things that we could be worrying about but we chose a chip bag. I'm glad that Frito Lay took the best approach and didn't listen to consumers and went back to the enviornmently friendly bag. We can just get over the noise and see that this way is better for our enviornment.
ReplyDeleteThe old bags were really noisy, but I got over it quickly. I didn't even think about complaining to the company that their environmentally friendly packaging was unsatisfactory. Positively, the company listened to the consumers and made a better product that will hopefully quiet the Sun Chips fans that are not into a noisy bag.
ReplyDeleteSome people are so rediculous!
ReplyDeleteI mean, what is the big point about a loud bag; aren't all chip bags loud? I think that it is great that Frito-Lay is making biodegradable chip bags! Sun chips have been such a hit, ever since they came onto the market, and it is is truly helping the environment. The more that people eat Sun chips, the more the environment is helped! But I think it is so silly that people are going to complain about the noise of the bag, when the bag is actually doing so much for the environment and the health of our society. I also think that Frito-Lay responded well, they decided to change the package, so they wouldn't lose customers, but they also kept the product environmentally friendly!
The perfect example of how consumerism can drive manufacturers to produce much more compelling products. It's also great that the company get their environmental goals in mind as well.
ReplyDeletePeople are becoming too picky for the environment these days. Putting up with a noisy bag uses the same amount of patience as sorting out the recycling, if not less. But if the buyers object, then the company really has no choice but to switch. Thank goodness they found a better solution!
ReplyDeleteGreat post Kimi! I agree thaat it is ridiculous that people are really complaining about how loud a bag of chips are. Maybe instead of complaining, they should do an adopt a highway program or something that can help out the enviornment. Also, it is good that Frito Lay did not stop producing anymore of the "noisey" enviornment friendly bags. Instead, they made the bags even bettter.
ReplyDeleteThis is crazy! So what if the bag makes noise? People make noise when they eat chips anyway so what is the big deal? If it helps the environment I think people can put up with a little extra noise every once in awhile.
