Tigers and pumas saved from being Mexico tourist attractions

Recently in Cancun, Mexico, Mexican environmental rescuers saved 9 tigers and two pumas from a local business man who was keeping them in cages as tourist attractions. This action took about 50 federal agents and those specialized in handling wild animals to take the large animals from the man. It was decided that the animals were on their way too zoos and wildlife reserves before they were rescued. There have been several complaints made about the business man who had these animals in cages because of the way they were being taken care of and how safety procedures weren't taken to protect everyday people. Accidents had already happened, such as a man being bitten on the head and arm, so actions the action to move the cats to a better place was definitely needed. I think it is a good thing that someone cared enough to protect these animals. They are often put in captivity and it's not always right. Now that people and these cats are protected, everyone in the area is better off.

  1. It's amazing what people can get away with in today's world, especially when it comes to how people treat animals. Although I do believe these animals were victims in this case, the man who was attacked was also a victim. Both the man and the big cats were put in that dangerous situation because of the man who owned the animals. The fact is, if someone is keeping wild animals, they should have the authority to do so. It's not right that just anyone can get enough money to maybe hurt not only animals, but the people around the animals. It is obvious in my opinion, that this man was doing this for the money only, and no thoughts about animal safety were brought into the picture. I'm glad the government stepped in when they did.

  2. I agree with Brie. It is sad to see how some animals are treated by humans on a daily basis. When it comes to animals in danger of becoming extinct like the puma and tiger, we must do what is necessary to protect them. The fact that one person had that many animals in cages for profit is scary. There are probably tons of other similar cases that just haven’t been reported yet. Not only was this man in danger, but he is putting the animals and others that could come into contact at risk as well.

  3. Knowing that people get away with this type of stuff really bothers me. I'm glad this business man was caught before the tigers or pumas were actually harmed. These animals are not meant to be held in small cages, they are wild animals and deserve to live free. Putting humans in harms way is also wrong and insconsiderate.
