We Have Failed The Wild Tiger

The head of an international wildlife says it has "failed miserably" to halt the population decline of tigers in the wild. Using tiger numbers as a proformance indicator shows that we have failed and our continuing to fail. Although the tiger has been prized throughout history, and is a symbol of importance to many religions and cultures, now it is literally on the verge of extinction. In the early 1900's tigers were found throughout Asia numbered over 100,000. Current estimates show that there are fewer than 3,200 left in the wild due to poaching. Tigers are primarily poached for their skins but almost every part of the tigers body can be used for decorative purposes. I think is unexceptable that we have so badly failed our tigers. They are an extreamly important animal to some cultures and more importantly the environment. Something needs to be done to stop poaching for good and save these incredible animals.

  1. There need to be stronger protection laws and acts so that endangered species can be protected and be saved from extinction. There is no reason that any kind of animal should be on the verge of extinction, the humans have to protect and help all of the animals, so that they can have a chance to thrive in their own environment. I feel like this is such a sad thing, and it is such a shame, that humans are doing this to other species. We have no right to take an entire race of animals or species, and deplete them. It is just wrong, we need to create very strong laws on the protection of endangered animals, and we need to have very strong consequences if these laws are broken. I find this very unacceptable.

  2. I agree with the comment above. However, I can understand the inability to enforce poaching laws over land so widespread and uninhabited. It may be because the people poaching them don't realize what harm they are doing to these species. I think its time for "The Cove 2: Poachers in India"

  3. I think that i will have to agree with nathan on this. Things need to be more strict but maybe they need to teach people more about what there choices will do to the animals

  4. I also agree with Kate there needs to be stricter protection laws. That's about the only thing that is going to save this species at this point. It's so sad to see such a great animal go away because of something we aren't doing.

  5. I also think that stricter laws should be enforced and stronger consequences, but, like Nathan said, how are you to monitor ALL of the poaching? It's almost like marijuana and prostitution; both illegal and still so many people are still doing them.
