KFC Reusable Containers

KFC has reallly started being innovative by using reusable containers. I'm not sure if the customer can bring them back in to have them filled instead of just compiling a bunch of them but either way it is a really brilliant idea. I really expected McDonald's or Wendy's to take a stab at going green, but KFC obviously took the lead on this concept. The only two problems I see with this are; I don't know if you bring them back to KFC and I don't know if everyone gets them. If KFC stops using their old containers and provides everyone with these, this will make a huge difference. This is absolutely brilliant! Way to go KFC!

  1. I think this is an awesome idea! I do agree with the fact that some of us probably expected some bigger named fast food restaurant to come up with this idea first. I think KFC could probably get other restaurants to do something similar too and that would make a big difference on our enviornment.

  2. I think that this is a bad idea. Reusing the containers will increase prices, and cause all sorts of food safety violations. The only use for this I see is as an off-brand Tupperware. And it will probably cost more.

  3. I think that this is a really good idea! So many people use fast food restaurants, and so many of the restaurants are wasteful! They use so much paper, and plastic, and are very wasteful with their resources. I don't konw if this idea will actually work, and I don't know how many people will actually use their KFC containers to carry their leftovers in, but it is a good start. Many fast food places, need to learn how to be more environmentally concious, and I think that KFC is taking the first step. I think this small change, with KFC's containers, will start off a large chain of changes for fast food restaraunts. This could lead to a big change in the fast food community, and overall in the environment. We have to start somewhere.

  4. I think that it could be a good idea but how will it effect how fast you get your food. If you think about it they are already slow enough making your food. How much slower do you think it would be if they were having to wash containers and keep track of container that are not to be thrown away.

  5. I think that this is overall a good idea. Reusing containers will reduce waste. It can also reduce the amount of money that KFC has to use on buying containers for their food. These new containers can be used for a long time and are more cost effective and eco-friendly.

  6. I think this is a great idea! We may not be able to bring the containers back in to refil our food orders, but it is just like the chinese resturant containers that we can use later for another reason. However, this will increase the prices a little bit. But overall the prices and rewards should even out overtime.

  7. When I went to KFC and my side was in reusable bowl I thought it was a great idea. My mom is always reusing things like that from restaurants. Even if the price goes up it probably won't be but a few cents. Plus if you are paying for food you might as well get a reusable container for later. You are getting more for your money.

  8. I agree with the majority of what people are saying. This is a great idea and I'm suprised McDonald's hasn't come up with their own version of this. However, I do see the logic behind Luke's comment. It will probably be more expensive to produce mass quantities of the plastic containers, and there is no telling how many people will actually reuse them.

  9. I think this is a smart move by KFC. The reusable containers will not be used again by KFC but by the consumers. The concept is that they give you this and you will continue to use the container for years to come. I like Luke W.'s comparison to an off-brand Tupperware container because that is basically what it is. My mom is like Kimi's because she always reuses containers from restaurants. The price may go up a little bit to pay for the new packaging but it seems like it is worth it. It will be interesting to see how the consumers react to the new packaging.

  10. This is a great idea, obviously. It saves people money by allowing them to use these little handy containers, instead of buying tupaware. It saves plastic because people save these; I know my family has a couple of these stored away in our counter. Great idea KFC.

  11. Absolutely a great idea. It might not be the most sanitary, but it still can prevent some waste from occuring. I am too surprised to see that Wendy's or McDonalds haven't done anything like this yet. These containers are more appealing to the eye than the regular paper container.

  12. I think this has the potential to be a good idea. They're using the approach that Target and Wal*Mart are using with the reusable bags, but with food? It seems a little unsanitary to me just because they'll have to bring those containers back into the kitchen. And how will they keep up with who's is who's? Maybe this idea is a little too underdeveloped to release at the moment.

  13. The new reusable containers definately has the potential to make a difference in our environmental struggles. Nonetheless, the success of this idea ultimately depends on the consumers eating at KFC. If consumers use the reusable containers as they are intended and keep them for other purposes, the product is successful. But, if people choose to simply throw away the container like they did in the past, nothing has been accomplished. Once again, the promise of our environment improving relies on the people using up the world's resources.

  14. I was at KFC in Clover today and I saw an ad for this! I think the deal is that you can wash them and use them at home, but I don;t think they can refill them with anything for health code reasons. It is still an awesome idea because if nothing else, it cuts back on the amount of Styrofoam that is thrown away.

  15. This is a good idea, and the Clover KFC does serve them! You can reuse them, and use them to put food in at home. I'm not surprised at all that McDonalds hasnt done anything like this. Good for KFC for being the first people the do it!

  16. Are there any other things they are doing besides the containers to go green? or any other of the fast food franchises?

  18. I don't think this is a good idea..If someones takes dishes out, there's very less chances of it coming back..instead serving in heavy containers like restaurants would work. Fast food centers can't go with it..anyways well done to think of it.
