This past weekend I went to the Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg, Virginia. While I was there, I noticed a sign in our room about Project Green Wolf. Normally when you stay at a hotel, your towels and bed linens get changed and washed everyday. Great Wolf offers ways to conserve and help the environment by allowing guests to use the same bed linens and towels if they want to. When you arrive, of course, you have new bed linens and towels. My towels were washed but we decided not to have our bed linens changed. At home I don't wash my bed linens everyday so why would I need it there. Great Wolf Lodge is the first and only hotel chain to have all of its US properties Green Seal Certified. Other than the guest linen recycling, Great Wolf Lodge has laundry facilities that recycles most of its water, low-flow showers, toilets, and faucets, waterless urinals, and pool filtration systems that recycles most of the water used in the water parks. All of their paper products are post-consumer recycled. They are also partners with National Geographic Kids to educate young minds about the environment. There are many more things that Great Wolf Lodge does to help the environment. I thought this was very interesting because seeing that this lodge is a huge place with a water park, you would think it's carbon footprint would be huge. It's really cool to see a hotel chain take the time to come up with this wonderful idea. Project Green Wolf is an awesome thing and more hotels should take this kind of idea on.

This is an awesome idea! I am going to visit one of these hotels this summer, and it's very interesting to see how they are not only an exciting hotel, but also a green hotel! This idea should be considered by other places as well because recycling in general is a great idea. Yet, having a Green Seal Certified hotel is even better. In fact, it's revolutionary. It's inspiring to see such a successful corporation taking a step to help the environment, and hopefully it'll push others to follow their lead. The bed linen idea, at least, is a very simple and easy one to accomplish. Like you mentioned, if you don't do it at home, why change the way you live just for a few days when it's wasteful? This is a creative and helpful idea that Great Wolf Lodge has created, and I hope it is not the last.
ReplyDeleteI also think this is a great idea! I think this is something to other hotels should take on in other ways in order for them to be more green too. It's good to see that people who stay at this hotel are very good about helping the hotel be successful in the things it's doing to go green and help the enviornment!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that this hotel decided to take a step to help the environment! It's awesome that such a large chain is focused on other important things rather than just making a profit. The hotel my family stays at in Wrightsville Beach also leaves the guests the option to use their towels and linens a few times before having them cleaned as well. I hope that other hotels are inspired by The Great Wolf Lodge's environmentally friendly actions and decide to do the same. Since hotels are a necessity everywhere, making most of them Green Seal Certified would decrease the carbon foot print our country leaves on the earth tremendously!
