In spite of the trauma caused by the media during BP's massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico last year,
Noble Energy has been given the first permit to resume drilling. Our nation needs oil, and drilling close to home will increase our supply as well as cut gasoline costs which are currently skyrocketing. However, their efforts are sure to be met by criticism from various environmental groups and this will most likely delay production. Many people think that we need to preserve our oil reserves, but I ask the question, "For what?" Because of the previous accident, oil companies have and will put much more into spill prevention and I suggest we encourage whatever chances we have at lowering gas prices.
I couldn't agree with you more Nathan. The gas prices are about to go to a ridiculous price in the summer and I think every gas company, not just B.P, should try to do more of this. In some places in the U.S, gas prices have gone up to $4 a gallon. What happened to the good old days when the price of a gallon of gas was less than a dollar? Not everybody can be happy, just as long as the greater number of people, or the greater good is happy.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a good idea for the time being but more time and money should be invested in alternative sources to oil. In the end it would save people money and be better for the environment than oil is.
ReplyDeleteAs far as oil goes, I think you're absolutely right. We are either going to have to A: Drill close to home and in the Gulf or B: pay more for foreign oil. It would be great if we could look for more renewable and cost-efficient energy sources, though.
