Stone Throwing Chimp Back At It Again

Three years ago, a stone throwing chimp named Santino stunned the science community by his daily actions. He would calmly gather stones in the mornings at the Furuvik Zoo in Gävle, Sweden, which he lived at. That's not the amazing part of this story. The fact that he would gather the stones every morning, arrange them in neat piles, and throw them at oncoming visitors was the shocking part. Seeing as monkey's are the closest animal in correlation to humans the fact that the monkey was able to plan ahead for what he understood was coming his way is amazing. Some scientist suggested that there was no importance of this monkey throwing rocks seeing as in the wild monkey's would throw poop, food, and sticks to show dominance in the tribe or of a location. Seeing as now Santino has begun to hide the rocks in different places where he know visitors will pass suggests his power to think and better yet plan ahead. By realizing this we can apply this to us as humans and gather a better understanding of how we live and function all based of a monkey named Santino who consistently throws rocks.

  1. That's really awesome. It is weird to think that any animal would have the ability to actually plan ahead for what he knew was going to happen that day and act on it. That shows that some animals are truly intelligent. I disagree with the scientists that say that this is not important or significant because it shows that not only do humans think and plan ahead but some animals do as well. I think that this an amazing breakthrough and can help out future scientist who may conduct studies on animals.

  2. this is really cool to know and see the intelligence that animals can have just like humans. maybe this monkey threw the rocks because he was feeling a threat or was just plain tried of the vistors bothering him so he wanted to do something about it. also in correlation to this i think it is interesting how other animals in the word show great intelligence we never thought they could have.

  3. Although it is kind of dangerous to allow the chimp to throw rocks at the visitors it is a bit interesting that he did what he did. You would think that animals can't obtain the ability to do things that humans can do. Honestly, I believe that this chimp is just showing off what animals can do, they are amazing! A study should be conducted on the similarities between chimp brain waves and humans. We, as humans, should find out what makes the chimp and entire monkey family line so close to humans. Is it their mind and if so how close are humans and chimps in IQ levels? These questions need to be answered. I am curious.

  4. so sick. haha Its cool to see that the intelligence level an animal that is non human and odd that we can somewhat communicate with them. I think this shows us that there could be a future in this. Studies have shown the brains and daily functions of monkeys are similar to that of humans. I feel that if this were to be looked into that we would find some amazing results in comparisons!
