Is Seaweed the Future of Biofuel?

Scientists have been looking for a safer and more efficient source of fossil fuels to be able to use instead of oil. Lately, they have been looking into the use of seaweed. Researchers have discovered that by using seaweed, it could not only give us another source of bioethanol, but it could help clean the oceans by ridding it off excessive nutrients.
I think that using seaweed as a fossil fuel is a very good idea because not only would we be able to have another source of bioethanol, but it would give us an option to be able to renew our own source and to save lands that we are getting our fuels from now for other things.

  1. Using seaweed would be a good idea seeing that it would lower the gas prices and we would be able to grow seaweed within the United States. That could possibly stimulate the economy which could lead to more money to fund other economically friendly projects.

  2. If we used seaweed as an alternative to oil it would suppress the rising of gas prices tremendously due to the lack of demand. It could possibly even go as far as becoming our only source. I believe it would be such a great switch because of seaweed’s availability and location. In addition to that there are far more positive possibilities and outcomes than there are negative. It would be helpful for the oceans to lower the nutrient level in which can be done by taking out great amounts of seaweed. It would be helpful for the Earth to stop drilling for oil; some spots on this planet should be left untouched by the wrongs of humans and the hands of machinery.

  3. I believe that this is a great idea but would it would be used so heavily that we start to make it scarce. Are there mammals or fish that depend on seaweed? I mean I know that there is a lot of seaweed out there but if we make it our only source will we be using it excessively to the point where we start to destroy another good resource and start putting more animals in danger. Will it be regulated or can people just take what they want when they want because that could also cause a lot of damage. On the other hand if we have seaweed as an abundance and there is no way we could harm other living things by taking it then this is a great idea. Anything to help out environment and like Jordan mentioned boosting up the economy is what this world needs. We need to start finding alternatives for things we are using now and I think that this is a great start to something we use a lot every day.
