After years of climate change being called "global warming," it will now be called "global climate disruption." This plea from the White House is because of people not taking the term global warming seriously. They think that as soon as a winter is freezing cold that global "warming" can't be true! The call comes from Congress after they're about to adjourn and still have not reached a decision on a stalled climate bill.
Huh I find your posting interesting. I personally don't know that changing a name is going to raise better awareness I mean perhaps it will but I feel that many people are too uneducated on the topic and make assumptions on what they think that know; and if thats the case then I doubt this will change based on a name... Kelly do you think this will change peoples thoughts on the topic?
ReplyDeletePersonally I do not think changing the name of the topic will help at all. I think people will still call it global warming regardless of the actual name change. Also I doubt people will take global climate disruption/global warming more seriously solely due to the name change.
ReplyDeleteI think that's kind of stupid that they think people are going to take it more seriously just because it has a different name now. I mean, if people were not taking it seriously at first, and a name change can alter their view on the topic, that doesn't really come off as a strong stance on it anyways.
ReplyDeleteI think this could be very effective. American's are easily molded and influenced. (I.E If you charge 99 cents for an object as opposed to a dollar, more people are likely to buy it.) It all depends on how a certain person's psyche works, and for us American's, a simple two word change could make a world of difference.
ReplyDeleteChanging the name of the topic will probably get peoples attention for maybe a month or two until, they become numb to that topic as well. People are not responding to global warming like the white house would like, because it has been around for so many years, and no one seems to be doing anything about it, and there haven't been any major "mishaps" or "disasters."
ReplyDeleteI do agree that people Think that global warming is over after a harsh winter. The name change could help. Global warming is not just the atmosphere burning up, alot of other issues tie in.
