SunChips Consumers Reject Eco Friendly Bag b/c It Was Too Noisy

Eighteen months or so ago SunChips changed from its standard chip bag to an entirely biodegradable bag. The bag was loud. Consumers complained. And they also stopped buying SunChips. Now, one can’t say for entirely sure if the drop in Sunchips sales was due entirely to the loud bag, but the timing leads that to be the obvious conclusion.

According to USA Today, the SunChips bag will revert to its former self. The former bags, by the way, are not only not biodegradable but also can’t be recycled. Bonus! To quote the USA Today article, “The noise of the bag – due to an unusual molecular structure that makes the bag more rigid – has been compared to everything from lawnmowers to jet engines."

Such was the anger, the mobilization of frustrated consumers whose lives were wrecked by the sound of the Sunchips bag, that more than 44,000 people liked a Facebook page called “Sorry But I Can’t Hear You Over This SunChips Bag.” And nothing represents the passion of the people more than when they mass like a Facebook page

Hey, I have an idea! PUT YOUR STUPID CHIPS IN A STUPID BOWL WHEN YOU EAT THEM SO THAT YOU DON’T HAVE TO LISTEN TO THE SOUND OF THE BAG.

The bag entirely broke down in fourteen days or less. Stupidity, however, takes a lot less time than that to manifest.

  1. I think it's stupid that people are complaining about how the bag was too noisy and they quit buying it which then made the company change back to their non-biodegradable bags! People need to get over it and be glad that our companies are actually thinking about taking care of our environment and get over their noisy bags. I guess it's a good thing that this company had the idea of changing their bags. But hopefully they will end up finding another way to make better bags with so much NOISE, so that their customers won't get so mad about it and decide to make stupid facebook group about it!

  2. I agree with Carley thats outrageous. I can't believe people would stop buying good chips because a stupid noisy bag. To be quit honest I do agree that it is loud but at least this bag is actually biodegradeable unlike its old. This bag is great that it breaks down in 14 days! HELLO do u not see the reason for the bag change? All of the annoying consumers need to take their noses out of the air and realize what this is doing to help our environment and they probably need to learn what recycle means too!

  3. I agree with the both of y'all. people just need something to complain about nowadays. if they dont want noise, put on earmuffs or earplugs or something. or just use scissors. the bright side of a noisy bag is you can wake people up if popped right :)

  4. The bag doesnt change the product inside. People are always going to be people though. People always have to have something to complain about. They should think of a new way to make the bags less noisy and still be boidegradable. What could they use to make the bag less noisy?

  5. This was so shocking to me, I went and read the article myself. The only revision I have is that it takes 14 weeks to decompose instead of 14 days. But the fact that people will reject a company and a great idea completely because of something like noise is baffling to me. It's about getting the product to the consumer in an eco-friendly way. Who cares if the bag is a bit noisy?

  6. Welll.. I think people need to be informed why they changed the bag. I had no idea that the bags were changed because they made them biodegradable. There might not have been as much complaining if SunChips had maybe put a commercial out or something along those lines.

  7. The fact that people are rejecting SunChips due to a "noisy bag" is really disappointing. In my opinion I do not care for the noise of the bag either, but that will not defer me from SunChips altogether. This is truly unbelievable.

  8. i think ALL the bags should be biodegradable. who cares if they're noisy. if all the bags were the same and it still bothers you that much.. dont buy it!
dont eat chips.. dont get fat.. so its a win win, it will take the obesity level down in america (maybe) and if the fattys still want be fat, then they can eat the chips, AND save the world, AND we'll here them coming, so win win win
