A plant helping to make a greener battery

Rechargeable batteries are great for the environment anyways. Millions of batteries are lying in dumps as it is and rechargeable batteries significantly reduces the amount of batteries thrown away. Now there is an even greener battery in development. Recent research shows that Common Madder (Rubia tinctorum) can be used to produce rechargeable, green batteries. This plant has a good source of purpurin, an organic dye that can be turned into a highly effective, natural cathode for lithium-ion batteries. Apparently developing batteries is very expensive, you have to mine for cobalt. Cobalt must be heated at very high temperatures (which is expensive) and therefore ca be a very hazardous material. There are still some other choices to put into the development of the new gree battery, like using agricultural waste instead of the Common Madder. Either are said to be fine to use. We could begin to implement this plant into batteries but scientists are still testing it, and they want to continue to develop the battery until they can make it completely green.    http://www.macroevolution.net/green-batteries.html
