Clues to Life on Earth and Mars from Billion-Year-Old Water

A UK-Canadian team of scientists has discovered ancient pockets of water, which was located deep underground. The water is at least 1.5 billion years old, but could be significantly older. The water contains chemicals that are known to support life. Before this finding, the only water of this age was found trapped in tiny bubbles in rock and is incapable of supporting life. The similarity between the rocks that it was trapped in are of the same similarities of those on Mars. They found that the water is rich in dissolved gases like hydrogen, methane and different forms (isotopes) of noble gases such as helium. There is as much hydrogen in the water as around hydrothermal vents in the deep ocean, many of which teem with microscopic life. I believe that there should be a further study into this because most people that humans can travel to exist on other planets that have living qualities such as earth does. The world can only be so big before it gets overcrowded and with how society has populated now.. living on Mars doesn't seem so far away.
