This year, a part of a 17-year cycle of breeding, one type of cicadas will
come out from
Connecticut to
North Carolina to mate. These insects come
out only every 17 years to lay eggs and have more cicadas, before going back
underground for another 17 years. These have not been out since 1996, and this
group is one of the largest groups in the cycle that come out. The ancestors of
these creatures have been around for millions of years and will continue these
cycles every 17 years.

We had a huge cicada invasion in fort mill last year. It was aweful. They were all in the yard and in the trees and the roads were sometimes covered in them too.
ReplyDeleteSummer time is going to be pretty bad this year because of this. At least it only happens every 17 years, but still i hear there are thousands of them and they can get pretty loud.
