U.N. Urges Eating Insects

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2013/13/130514-edible-insects-entomophagy-science-food-bugs-beetles/ The United Nations recently recommended that we eat consume more insects. The Y.N. Food and Agriculture Organization says there are 1900 edible insect species on Earth that are already part of the diets of many countries. In the U.S. we see eating insects as disgusting. Sure it seems gross but we have never even tried them, how can we say it’s gross? There are many good benefits to eating insects. They are very rich in nutrients, proteins, fats, you name it they’ve got it. Also, they take up a lot less land to raise as opposed to the land we use up to raise farm animals, and emit much less greenhouse gas than farm animals because they are so efficient at converting their food into protein. One more thing to note is that we would be using less insecticides because we would already be eating enough insects to prevent them from populating so much. This is highly unlikely to happen in the U.S. because it is something we are not accustomed to. I know I would probably never eat an insect no matter how many benefits they have.

  2. Everyone has their own tastes I guess and I knew they were a lot of edible bugs but wow 1900. That's amazing, but I doubt I would enjoy it very much. But as I said before everyone has their own tastes.

  3. You make a good point there seems to be a lot of pros that go with eating bugs. Im sure some people think it is weird we eat cows and other animals, im just happy we live in a place that doesnt encourage insect eating.
