Desertification?
We have all heard of deforestation, but have you heard of desertification? Desertification is the process where people over use the land, as a population grows so does the need to produce food, build homes, and so on. All of this can result into desertification. Now this will not likely happen in your back yard where there is fertile ground and trees, this happens in drylands. Drylands include cultivated lands, scrublands, shrublands, and grasslands. Over time after years of wear and tear from humans these places can become deserts. Looking towards the future with our population increasing, desertification will become more rampant. Luckily there are a list of ways to prevent this like integrating land and water management, Protecting vegetative cover, integrating the use of land for grazing and agricultural purposes, and combining traditional practices with land use technologies.
