Ice Melts in the Arctic

This article talks about how the melting of ice in the arctic regions will make it possible for ships to make it through the normally ice-covered waters.  Scientists believe that the ice is melting due to rising carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere.  Because this issue is caused by the atmosphere itself, there might not be any possible solutions.  The atmosphere cannot be stopped.  My opinion of this article is that it does not seem that bad right now, but if all of the ice continues to melt with no stopping period, our ocean levels will rise causing many other issues on earth.

  1. My comment would be that ultimately the atmosphere cannot be stopped, and that this issue doesn’t cause an immediate call to attention. When the ocean levels start to rise due to the melting of icecaps that is when I believe it will start to be an environmental threat.
