There is so much technology available now in the world. New technological advances are placed on the market every day. So much that it’s hard to keep up with. New technology is a good thing, but the issue now is how to dispose of all the old technology. When companies put out upgrades of products everyone buys that and gets rid of the old one. Eventually, the older ones can’t function correctly with all the other new upgrades out and nobody has it anymore. It is situations like this that has caused giant piles of electronic waste to be dealt with all over the world. Once the broken electronics sit long enough, toxins come out of them because they contain a lot of lead and they harm the environment. Years ago, the products were recycled and used to remake the items but now it cannot be done. Cathode ray tubes could be melted and made into new ones but there is no use because TV’s now are thinner and use other things to make it work properly so the tubes just sit there waiting to be dealt with. Nobody really knows exactly what to do or where to put the waste. Some people throw it in other countries, some just abandon it in warehouses, some sell it to recyclers, and some dump it into landfills. It releases toxins into the environment and this is not good, so we need a solution fast.
In my opinion, this is serious issue but in my mind, world hunger and homelessness are bigger issues. This is a new issue that I’ve never heard of before. To solve this problem, maybe we could find some kind of way to make the unwanted products into something that developing countries could use for survival or as a tool they could use to help their living situation. I have no clue what, but it just seems like a good idea to me. I’m sure someone can think of something. Or maybe, companies could make it into something different to sell to raise money for charity somehow. This solution seems very difficult to actually do but with the type of technology that people invent now days, I know somebody can invent a machine to properly dispose of this electronic waste for us. I mean really.
