Lake Erie Is In Danger

This article basically says that Lake Erie in Ohio is in trouble of becoming too heavily polluted. A thick, toxic algae forms over the lake each summer with a heavy rainfall. With the lake turning dangerous for humans the local economy is struggling. I think that all fishing should stop in the lake, because commercial fishing is taking too many fish out of the lake that help maintain it. Phosphorus is being put into the lake causing the algae to grow. The industries that use the lake are responsible for this and it is hard to stop their waste. I think that the waste needs to be handled better by the industries to help get the lake back to normal.

  1. I think that water being polluted is a very bad thing. Water pollution doesn’t just affect one species, it affects all of the species who encounter it. Humans swim and drink water, children play in it and adults bathe in it. Animals drink and bathe, and in some cases live in it. If the water contaminated with pollutants than all of the creatures who used this water will feel its harmful effects. This lake being heavily polluted is not good for anyone who depends on it such as fishermen for local markets. The filth in the lake does indeed need to be dealt with.

  2. Well talking about the zebra clam or muscle or whatever it was.... I once read an article about them and they are heavy filter feeders so wouldn't this only help this problem? Although it does make the waters clearer allowing more sunlight to reach the bottom which in turn adds more plant life. Which isn't to bad a thing its a lot better than the alternative.
