Prairie Revitalization

Our nation's great prairies are now 1% of what they used to be. But some landowners in the Midwest are looking to change that. Using their own yards to reconstruct the prairie ecosystem is having a big impact on the environment. They are doing this by planting native species and letting their grasses grow. With these easy steps they are also eliminating the need for extra water and fertilizing that foreign plants need. It's even better when all of your neighbors are doing it, so you create a larger habitat for native organisms. Don't be discouraged though if it's only your single patch of yard. Experts say that anything and everything helps with prairie reconstruction. In fact people are creating prairies where they never were before, growing the vital ecosystem even more. Another bonus, you don't even have to mow!
