Russians take fresh samples from Antarctica's hidden Lake Vostok

Russian researchers say they have brought up fresh samples of clear ice from Lake Vostok in Antarctica, which is a lake about 2 miles underneath the surface. Lake Vostok could contain living organisms that have been sitting underground, un-touched for up to 20 million years.  If this is so, scientists can use this lake as a tool to help study what Antarctica’s ecosystem was like 20 million years ago.  The most exciting part is that it might contain creatures unlike any seen today. This discovery is seen as but a warm up for future sampling missions to Europa and Enceladus.
