NOAA Lists Ringed and Bearded Ice Seal Populations Under the Endangered Species Act

NOAA Fisheries announced on December 21, in compliance with a court ordered deadline, its final listing decision for four subspecies of ringed seals and two distinct population segments of bearded seals under the Endangered Species Act. The problem with this is that even in today's society where seal hunting should have been forgotten by this day in age, there are hunters who still persist to poach seals for their fur, causing them to be endangered of extinction. The easiest solution to this problem would be to ban all seal-hunting activities to civilians of northern regions to preserve populations. My opinion on this matter is that seals are a vital part in the northern aquatic food-chain and should be left alone.
