Third World Debt and Disaster Recovery:
With all the hurricanes, tsunamis, and other natural
disasters we have had in the past few years, people have began to notice that
third world countries are usually the ones that struggle the most to recover.
Why is this? Since they are known as “third world countries” they obviously do
not have enough money to replenish their city like some US cities do. After
Katrina, the Gulf took a hard hit but they were cleaning up and restoring
pretty soon after. Unfortunately, it isn’t like that in other places. Some
solutions to this problem would be to donate more money than we already, send
more volunteers, or even help create jobs before anything threatens to affect
them. Some barriers to this solution is that not everyone would be willing to
offer their time and money to people they don’t even know. In my opinion, this
is sad. It isn’t the country’s fault that a storm destroyed it. It’s not the
people’s fault either. We should be there to help them as much as we can.
